About Me

Hi, I"m Freddie. I am 13 and my birthday is May 4th. At the time of writing, I am currently in Year 9 (8th grade). I have recently picked my GCSE options and currently study the mainstream Key Stage curriculum. As of September, I will move up to UK Key Stage 4 (GCSE studies) and will be studying History, Business and Information Technologies.

I am also visually impaired with Coloboma and Nystagmus. Coloboma is where your eye doesn't close up properly during pregnancy and often results in a key-whole shaped defect. Nystagmus is the involuntary and uncontrollable movement of the eye. This can be from side to side or in a circular motion and both eyes move independently of each other. With these conditions, I have no vision or perception of colour in my right eye and loss of vision in my left. I began my life writing everything I did, both at school and at home. Later, I moved on using UEB Braille, learning both Grade 1 and 2 which I used for roughly 7 years. Finally, In the last 2 months, I have switched to large print for my main medium as my vision now permits it. I read and type in N24 bold. I have also begun to begin writing again after my first school's headteacher effectively ruined it. Because of this, I have had to relearn the basics of handwriting.

I have a passion for technology and have for many years. My life revolves around it and it probably stems from my need for assistive technology. I have many Apple products including an iPhone 11 Pro, iPad Pro, Apple Watch, iMac and more. There are a few reasons why I like Apple so much.

1. Apple is the best company and manufacture for accessibility features. Let me be perfectly clear, Android and Windows are accessible; I even use Windows for my school work. But, Apple has always come out on top for me and now has a special place in my heart.

2. Apple is often more universally recognised and supported. Apple has a much larger market share and more companies and services are supported on iOS and macOS. While I love the APK on Android, Apple just works better. I also find myself giving a lot of tech support and the majority of the people I work with are on Apple. A lot of my family are on Android but Android hasn't really changed that much since I ditched it three years ago, iOS is almost indistinguishable from a few years ago.

I also have an interest in photography and how this came about is quite the story. When the COVID situation was much worse last year, I was looking for something to do to clear my head and just chill. I signed up as a BBC Weather Watcher (I know, it's weird) and surprisingly, just taking 5 minutes out of my day to take a couple of pictures and put them online was surprisingly relaxing and really helped with my mental health at the time. Because of this, I decided to take this interest further and begin showing my work to others online using the power of Instagram. Unfortunately, this has slipped recently and I haven't posted in a while.

I also have a few smaller projects that I work on. FarnBourne Media being one of these. FarnBourne Media operates multiple YouTube channels and I effectively run everything behind the scenes. This ranges from scheduling to writing documents and planning videos. I run this project in collaboration with Joseph Seabourne. Another project I run is FarnBourne Studios, a Discord bot development company. We currently develop two bots, Red Square and Slash Notes. You can learn more about FarnBourne Studios here. Lastly, I own and operate a small Discord server for YouTube content creators to chat, hang out, ask questions and get feedback.
